Finely Crafted Roads, Yards & Driveways
Armstrong's Surfacing Scotland employ only the very best and most experienced workers in the business. From the largest commercial surfacing contracts to the smallest road repair jobs & pathways, we strive to deliver our services in the most professional manner, with a high emphasis on Health & Safety. But that doesn't mean we don't have a sense of humour! The words 'Tarmacadam' and 'North East' are synonymous with one of TV's most acclaimed drama series 'Boys from the Blackstuff' which ran from 1980 thru to 1982. The series gripped the nation at a time of deep recession with the British Film Institute describing it as 'TV's most complete dramatic response to the Thatcher era and a lament to the end of a male working class culture'. Sounds familiar? 'Black stuff' was the slang term for 'tarmac'. But what is tarmac? Google the subject and you'll find the most commonly searched query is 'What's the difference between tarmac and asphalt?' The two materials are closely related, they look the same to the untrained eye, and are similar in cost. Armstrong's Surfacing uses both; 'tarmac' actually, is a brand & REGISTERED TRADE NAME, so we must instead refer to it as 'tarmacadam'. It is the preferred product for most domestic applications, while asphalt is more often used for commercial jobs, yards, forecourts and car parks for example. Surface Dressing
Surface dressing, also known as chip sealing or tar and chip, is a road maintenance technique used to protect and extend the lifespan of existing road surfaces. It involves the application of a layer of bitumen or asphalt emulsion to the road, followed by the spreading of aggregate chips over the surface. The chips are then rolled or compacted into the bitumen, creating a durable and skid-resistant surface. Learn more....
